About the Event

Greetings and welcome to Berlin Stoics!

Today we're organizing a virtual workshop for those interested in getting a basic introduction to logic. This is a level 1 event, which means you don't need any background knowledge of logic or philosophy. Please consult the details on what level 1 means here:

The workshop will be organized in general as a presentation with points along the way to break for discussion and practice. Usually we host an introductory presentation on Stoicism, but we have made an exception this month. We're not sure how often we'll deliver this workshop, but if you can't make this one please stay tuned when we decide on its future recurrence.

The workshop covers the essential rules of logic as discovered by Aristotle, Chrysippus, and more including Boole. These include how to apply existential and universal quantifiers, negations and contrapositives, implications and others like the famous modus ponens and modus tollens. We'll insert practical examples by reading over excerpts from philosophical texts and discuss their logical consistency and their premises. To be clear, we will focus on deductive logic versus inductive logic. The difference will be made clear from the outset.

We lastly recommend you read our previous Book of the Month If A then B by Michael Shenefelt and Heidi White and attend our review discussion on the book, the event page for which you can find here:

The link to this event will be active between around minutes ahead of the start time, and we use for our video conferencing. The particular link will ultimately be The virtual event will be recorded if everyone consents, unless the quota of at least three participants hasn't been reached.

We look forward to seeing you there!
