About the Event
Greetings and welcome to Berlin Stoics!
July is the annual Stoic Month of Practice where we aim to engage the principles of the Stoic philosophy in everday life, together. We of course strive to do so everyday of our lives, irrespective of the month, but by choosing one month out of the year for these games we highlight the significance of truly living the philosophy and doing so together.
This month games will be held all over the world by local Stoas and Berlin Stoics will be hosting our own games today by coming together and training our inner citadel in the footsteps of the sage. And we'll have fun while doing it!
You'll be crafting syllogisms (the Stoics like the Peripatetics were pioneers in logic), questioning knowledge with the Socratic method, contemplating your judgments and using the dichotomy of control, and playing trivia on Stoicism facts and history. You need not know anything about Stoicism or have experience with Stoic practice, texts, or theory – the one exception is the trivia portion. Everyone and anyone is welcome! This will be the first Stoic games hosted by Berlin Stoics.
We'll meet at the Albert Lortzing Denkmal/Statue in Tiergarten. It's not too far from the Rosengarten. We'll wait approximately 10 minutes for any latecomers and then walk over to a nearby grassy area to sit and begin! Please keep in mind that as of now, Berlin is limiting outdoor gatherings to 10 people from five households. However, as the law changes in the coming days and weeks, we'll update this event to reflect the increased capacity. Keep in mind that if it has been 14 days passed since you were fully vaccinated or 14 days passed since you recovered from COVID-19, please message the organizer on meetup and inform them; you are not counted towards the limit for outdoor gatherings. We will increase the capacity as you inform us.
You cannot register for this event here on our website; you must register on our meetup page for this event.
Please bring drinks or food along if you so wish! (We are not collecting money and we may not bring enough for everyone, so bear this in mind.)
If you can't make it today, don't worry, we will also be hosting a virtual games and practice event to allow those who could not make the in-person event to participate. We will also likely repeat this event more frequently than every year, so stay tuned.
We look forward to seeing you there!
