About the Event
Greetings and welcome to Berlin Stoics!
Today we're delivering an in-person workshop for those interested in getting to know more deeply what it's like to meditate on the four cardinal virtues of Stoicism. The facilitator, Steve, will be serving the workshop. The strategies used are inspired by traditional Stoic practices, generally divided into four sections: discussing and proposing descriptive definitions of the virtues, visualizing how to use the virtues in real life, contemplating the sage, and contemplating a friend, family member, or other person you know who embodies one or more of the virtues either in whole or in part.
We usually prescribe levels to events to let you know if you need a background in Stoicism in order to participate, but for this event no such level has been assigned! Everyone and anyone attend. This will be the first Stoic workshop of its kind so we're interested in hearing feedback from everyone who comes by. Please be sure to bring a notebook and something with which to write; or your laptop if you so prefer. Part of the workshop will involve personally journaling in response to certain prompts for short durations around 5-10 minutes.
The workshop is 1 hour long and will be followed by an optional duration when we can stick around and discuss Stoicism as we like. It'll be casual and this we can use as a time during which we can get to know each other, discuss the workshop and Stoicism at large, and especially finally get a chance to meet other Stoics in person in months!
We'll meet at the Albert Lortzing Denkmal/Statue in Tiergarten. It's not too far from the Rosengarten. We'll wait approximately 10 minutes for any latecomers and then walk over to a nearby grassy area to sit and begin! Please keep in mind that as of now, Berlin is limiting outdoor gatherings to 10 people from five households. However, as the law changes in the coming days and weeks, we'll update this event to reflect the increased capacity. You cannot register for this event here on our website; you must register on our meetup page for this event.
If you can't make it today, don't worry, this workshop will occur somewhat periodically (though how frequently hasn't yet been determined). Lastly, as long as we reach a threshold of at minimum 4 participants (not including the facilitator), we will record the audio of the workshop and post it in our youtube channel. Steve will of course ask if everyone is okay or anyone has a problem with this beforehand.
We look forward to seeing you there!
