Volunteer Positions Vacant
We're searching for volunteers to help us organize and generally operate our group. Check out the open positions below! You don't need to consider yourself a Stoic; many of our participants in the past have considered themselves more Buddhist or eclectic than Stoic. However, we do ask you attend our events at least occasionally and you show an interest in Stoicism. Please use the contact form on our contact page to apply, or click the button at the bottom of the page. Explain for what position you're applying, why, and why you would be a good fit. We're indifferent to your decision to volunteer, but we prefer it anyhow!
As the German-language faciliator, you would organize parallel meetups or other events in German. Steve is the English-language facilitator and founder, but he wouldn't be in any way a superior to you. As another facilitator you two would be partners in operating Berlin Stoics; Berlin Stoics is indeed a democratic organization and doesn't operate hierarchically. You would set up and facilitate/run your own events in German for those Berlin residents (or those outside Berlin attending virtually) who prefer to discuss Stoicism and philosophy generally in German. You should have a native-level command of German, but need not be German yourself. You should also have fluency in English to stay up-to-date with what's going on in the English events. Berlin Stoics in English and in German should, while working independently, still cooperate to an extent, share, and at times come together. The point is to continue building a Stoic community in Berlin. No previous meetup organization experience is necessary, and no background in philosophy is necessary, just a willingness to learn and grow. You don't even have to consider yourself a Stoic! You just have to be passionate about it that you're willing to act as our principal German-language facilitator.
Social Media Organizer
First and foremost, you must already have a Facebook and a Twitter account. To the point, your role would be to set up and maintain a Facebook group page and a Twitter account for Berlin Stoics. For now, the two profiles will be in English so you need to have a fluency in English. German is also welcome as in the future, but not at the moment, we would eventually like to create German profile counterparts to these accounts. You should also have some experience at least tinkering with social media group pages and posting in twitter; be prepared to show examples if you do have them. Having experience working for another organization in these regards is a plus, but not necessary. Volunteering for meetup groups or other groups like ours is also not necessary. You don't even have to consider yourself a Stoic! You just have to have an interest in the philosophy, learning more about it, and be willing to attend some of our events.
